It began in technology.
Early in his career, John worked in computer networking, enterprise systems and large-scale technology conversions. By 2001, he was helping lead technical teams responsible for complex systems-integration projects in the financial-services industry.
Following the disruption of the technology industry after September 11, John began exploring entrepreneurship. An unexpected experience introduced him to mortgages. After purchasing his first home and going through a mortgage transaction that left him questioning the cost and competitiveness of the financing he'd received, John became fascinated by the industry.
He saw an opportunity to combine what he knew about technology with something consumers desperately needed: competition. In 2002, he built LoanFight.com.
LoanFight in Black Enterprise
The May 2003 Black Enterprise article Refinance Your Mortgage Now included LoanFight among online resources consumers could use to seek competing refinance offers. Until an original magazine copy is located, the badge links to Black Enterprise's online article archive.

From building the technology to learning the business
When the original LoanFight stopped operating, John went into mortgage lending himself. For more than two decades, he worked directly in mortgage and real-estate finance—structuring transactions, understanding underwriting guidelines, solving difficult financing scenarios and developing relationships throughout the lending industry.
Alongside his lending career, John became a real-estate investor and property operator, owning and managing a portfolio that grew to approximately 40 rental units. That experience gave him a view from both sides of the transaction: lending guidelines on one side and the realities of owning, improving and operating rental property on the other.
LoanFight reborn
More than twenty years after the original LoanFight was created, artificial intelligence and modern financial technology can accomplish things that would have required enormous amounts of manual work in 2002. But technology alone isn't enough. A financing platform needs to understand the deal, know what questions matter and recognize when one path doesn't fit—and where another might.
That's the new LoanFight. Modern technology combined with decades of real-world lending and real-estate experience to help homebuyers, property owners and real-estate investors navigate financing more intelligently.
